Does Section 220.127.116.11 of the 2010 Indiana Energy Conservation Code (IECC) allow the use of an air curtain in lieu of a vestibule?
Interpretation of the State Building Commissioner
No. Section 18.104.22.168 of the 2010 IECC does not allow the use of an air curtain in lieu of a vestibule.
The language of the code is clear. The section is not a performance code, but rather it specifically requires the use of vestibules in certain entry conditions. The code enumerates several exceptions to the regulation, but none of them name air curtains as allowable substitutions.
