Under IC 4-22-2-24, notice is hereby given that on March 31, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. EDT, at the Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Conference Center Room 19, Indianapolis, Indiana, the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed rule that amends 675 IAC 21-1 to update Elevator Safety Code provisions, amends 675 IAC 21-3 to adopt the 2007 edition of ANSI/ASME A17.1, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, with amendments, amends 675 IAC 21-4 to modify a provision, amends 675 IAC 21-8 to adopt the 2005 edition of A18.1, Safety Standard for Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts, adds 675 IAC 21-9 to adopt the 2005 edition of ANSI A17.3, Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators, with amendments, adds 675 IAC 21-10 to adopt the 2007 edition of the ASME QEI-1, Standard for the Qualifications of Elevator Inspectors, with amendments, adds 675 IAC 21-11-1 to adopt the 2005 edition of ASCE Standard 21, the Automated People Mover Standards Part 1, with amendments, adds 675 IAC 21-11-2 to adopt the 2008 edition of ASCE Standard 21, the Automated People Mover Standards Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4, with amendments.
Public comments are invited and may be directed to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Code Services Section, Attn: Mara Snyder, Indiana Government Center South, 302 West Washington Street, Room W246, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.
The Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission has authority and the obligation to adopt this rule under IC 22-13-2-2. The newer editions of existing standards are required to be adopted under IC 22-13-2-2. The only other two amendments are made to update the title of the code and to repeal language that no longer is applicable. There is a net fiscal cost saving to the regulated community with the adoption of this rule.
Copies of these rules are now on file at the Indiana Government Center South, 302 West Washington Street, Room W246 and Legislative Services Agency, One North Capitol, Suite 325, Indianapolis, Indiana and are open for public inspection.
